Molly & Susan’s Wedding in Big Sur

Molly and Susan’s wedding in Big Sur has to be one of my top five favorite shoots of all time! It’s a funny thing really, I started the day by driving out to Carmel by The Sea to meet Molly and Susan at their B&B for their getting-ready moments and first look. However, there were some treacherous storms on Highway One during the drive-up. The storms had me worried that their wedding ceremony in Big Sur would be marred by the poor weather.

To say that we got lucky with the impending weather would be the understatement of the year! Not only did the clouds part right before Molly and Susan’s wedding ceremony, but there was a rainbow shining over them throughout the duration of their vows. While the rainbow was out to play, I even got to capture it in the backdrop of some of their wedding portraits. I have to admit, the rugged terrain of Big Sur never disappoints! But, this was my first time experiencing a rainbow during a wedding!

Molly is a travel nurse and she and Susan love that they have the ability to travel the country together. They are a fun, adventurous couple who loves nature. So the decision to say I do in Big Sur came easy to them. Aside from its rugged terrain, Big Sur’s prime coastal location is filled with misty views of the horizon. Which worked their magic as the backdrop for Molly and Susan’s wedding ceremony. It was a beautiful moment to watch as they were joined in marriage. Once they were pronounced, Molly & Susan celebrated with their guests by popping open a bottle of champagne. After taking one last glimpse of the coastal views, they headed off to their cake-cutting.
