Booking + fit

Who is James Lester Photography for?

Weddings and elopements of all kinds are welcome here. I’m a queer photographer, and I care about making this a comfortable, affirming experience across identities, cultures, bodies, and abilities. Tell me about anything that would help you feel supported.

How do we book?

Send an inquiry with your date, location, and a little about your plans. We’ll check availability and talk through coverage. Your date is reserved once the agreement is signed and the retainer in your proposal is paid. An inquiry on its own doesn’t hold the date.

Can we meet before booking?

Absolutely. We can have a video call, or meet in person when it works for everyone. Bring your questions, even if you’re still figuring out the wedding part!

Do you travel outside San Luis Obispo County?

Yes, throughout California and beyond. Tell me where you’re headed, and I’ll confirm any travel costs before you book. They depend on the distance and what the trip involves.

What if we feel awkward in photos?

You don’t need to practice posing. I’ll give you something simple to do, help with where to stand, and leave room for you to settle in together. We’ll make portraits, but you won’t spend the whole wedding performing for my camera.

How do you choose and edit our photos?

I work through the photographs myself, keeping the moments that tell the story and removing test frames, accidental duplicates, and misfires. Then I edit for color, light, and consistency. A teary face or an imperfectly timed laugh can be one of my favorite photos; technical perfection isn’t the only thing I’m looking for.

Do you use AI in your work?

Sometimes, for small fixes. I may use AI-assisted cleanup in Lightroom or Photoshop for a distracting bystander, hair across a face, or a similar detail in an otherwise lovely photo. I use it sparingly and check the result myself. It helps me keep a meaningful photograph that might otherwise get passed over.

I also use grammar help to tidy up my writing and trim the occasional very long draft. The creative decisions and final review stay with me.

Your images + delivery

When and how do we receive our images?

For my collections, Simple arrives in 2–3 weeks, Centra in 4–6 weeks, Classic in 6–8 weeks, and Story within 8 weeks. Classic and Story include a sneak peek within 72 hours. I’ll email your finished gallery so you can download and share it. Makayla’s delivery details are listed with her own collections.

How many photographs will we receive?

Around 50 edited photographs per hour of coverage is a useful planning estimate. The final count depends on the day, so the collection estimates aren’t a fixed quota. You’ll receive the photographs I select and finish for your gallery.

Can we order prints and albums?

Yes. Your gallery includes a shop for professional prints and wall art, with album options too. You can also download your finished photographs and share them with family and friends.

Should we make our own backups?

Yes, please download your full-resolution gallery and keep another copy somewhere safe. I keep backups too, but your own copies matter. Check your delivery email for gallery-access details rather than relying on the online link as your only archive.

What does Faith’s included assistance cover?

Faith helps with gear, lighting, and photography logistics during my booked wedding coverage. They’re a photography assistant, not a second photographer or wedding coordinator. iPhone video is an optional paid upgrade; we’ll plan their filming time around the package you choose.

What if Faith can’t make our date?

If Faith becomes unavailable, we’ll let you know as soon as possible and talk through any changes to the support or add-ons you’ve booked. We’ll keep you involved in the plan.

Can we book Polaroid photos?

Ask us about them in your inquiry. We’re developing this option with Faith for weddings they assist alongside me, and we’ll confirm availability, pricing, and what’s included before you book it.
