Hi, I’m James.
I’m James—a photographer, lifelong musician, queer creative, devoted animal person, and big fan of people loving each other exactly as they are.
The short version
A little about me and the work.
I photograph weddings and elopements because I love what happens when people, feeling, and light all meet in one completely unrepeatable day. My work lives somewhere between vintage and modern: cinematic but never distant, editorial without losing the honest stuff, and polished without asking you to perform for the camera.
I’ve been photographing weddings for more than a decade. Seeing my work in The New York Times, Rock & Roll Bride, and other publications is pretty wild. But what matters most hasn’t changed: earning your trust, helping the day feel lighter, and giving you photographs that bring the feeling right back.
I’m also a lifelong musician and occasional DJ, so I’m always noticing rhythm, atmosphere, little shifts in energy, and the way a celebration builds. It’s probably why I care so much about the dance floor.
Why this work is personal
A creative life built through change.
Photography found me during a difficult chapter with ulcerative colitis. Chronic illness pulled me away from the path I expected, and landscape photography helped me get outside, keep some perspective, and make something meaningful during a really uncertain time.
Friends kept encouraging me, and years of mentorship from Blake Andrews of SLOtography helped that creative practice become a career. I still photograph alongside the SLOtography team, and I’m grateful that a hard detour led me to a life built around art, connection, and people’s most important memories.

As a queer person, I know how tiring it can be to wonder whether a wedding vendor is genuinely welcoming. I’m an LGBTQ+ Inclusive Certified Vendor through Equally Wed, and I’m always learning how to use more inclusive language, support different needs, and lead with empathy instead of assumptions.
That care isn’t limited to one community. Every identity, culture, skin tone, body type, ability, and family structure belongs here. You’ll never be asked to shrink, translate, or edit yourself to fit a wedding-industry template.
