Montana de Oro Beach Elopement

Maddy and Kevin’s elopement at Montana de Oro State Park beach was an intimate, laid-back event full of grounded emotions and magical energy. There are so many guides out there on how to obtain a wedding permit to get married in the park. I’m here to tell you, that this is the only area of the park that does not require a permit! Perfect if you want that beautiful backdrop of the rocky coastline, while the waves lap the shore during your vows.

The area they chose for their wedding is nature’s playground. And when Maddy and Kevin’s day arrived, the park looked nothing short of enchanting. There were splashes of color in the yellow and purple wildflowers. Which we stopped at for two very important reasons. Firstly, to place Maddy and Kevin in the midst of, to capture some gorgeous wedding day portraits. Secondly, for a wedding day version of ‘stopping to smell the roses’. Because what better way to celebrate your newlywed status than to stop and enjoy the sights around you.

During the lead-up to Maddy and Kevin’s wedding ceremony, emotions were running high. Their friends and family lined the beach, comfortably sitting on beach chairs or right in the sand. It was a no-fuss, come to celebrate our love vibe, with guests in their comfortable attire. Whether or not they decided to wear shoes, was completely up to them. Maddy made her way down the aisle in her sandals, which proved a perfect choice of attire for our post-ceremony couples portraits.

After their vow exchange, Maddy and Kevin were pronounced married. They mingled with their guests for a bit for celebratory hugs and to show off their rings. I rallied the guests around the shoreline for a great big group photo of them with the couple and everyone was positively elated. Once the congratulations had all been spoken, it was time to take Maddy and Kevin to Hazard Reef Trail.

This particular trail is one of my favorites. Knowing that California had just experienced a surge of rare storms and that the flowers were in bloom, it was an amazing choice of backdrop for Maddy and Kevin’s wedding day portraits. Wanting to take advantage of the jagged coastline in the distance, we ended our time together enjoying the blufftop oceanviews before sitting atop the smooth stones at the rocky shore (my colleagues at Arizona Elopement Collective do something similar with their clients and the Red Rock formations!).
