Wedding at Santa Barbara Courthouse

An intimate micro wedding at the iconic Santa Barbara Courthouse. It’s always a fun excursion for me to head out to the Santa Barbara Courthouse, and even more so when it’s to capture a micro wedding, like Ashley and Mark’s!

Ashley and Mark’s wedding was attended by myself, and the in-house officiant of the Santa Barbara Courthouse. With intimate micro-weddings like theirs, there is no decor, no guest lists, no timelines. It’s an uncomplicated wedding focused on the root of the couple’s love by solidifying their connection through marriage. I think there is something so poetic and beautiful about the simplicity of a courthouse wedding. It’s honest and yet so romantic.

Don’t get me wrong, I love celebrating with all of my couples. But being the only guest in attendance at Ashley and Mark’s Santa Barbara Courthouse wedding, as well as their wedding photographer, is something I will always hold dear to me.

Courthouse weddings can very much be celebrated with wedding day attire, professional hair, and makeup (if that’s your thing!) and bouquets and boutonnieres In fact, if you plan on hiring a wedding photographer to capture every moment of your courthouse wedding, then adding these elements to your vows will create gorgeous wedding day photography while allowing you to still be immersed in the experience of your wedding day.

Ashley and Mark said I do on the grounds of the Santa Barbara Courthouse. It was a stunning spring day with the blue sky hanging over us as they became joined in marriage. Thus, with their vows recited, I decided it was time to work some magic for Ashely and Mark, so we walked around the grounds of the courthouse to capture their wedding day portraits. The season was in full bloom with spring flowers showcasing their beauty all around us.

Originally constructed in 1926 the Santa Barbara courthouse is a stunning piece of architecture created in the popular Spanish-Revival style. The courthouse was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2004 and has been a favorite destination among locals for wedding vows ever since. With their photos on the grounds of the courthouse complete, we headed off to the nearby Leadbetter Beach. Leadbetter Beach is another staple location of Santa Barbara and provided a lovely backdrop for Ashley and Mark to take a moment and celebrate their newlywed status in front of the camera!
